The Controller plans, directs and coordinates all accounting operational functions. They will handle multiple tasks with deadlines, and provides transparent and complete reports to leadership utilizing a strong understanding of accounting practices, business compliance and regulations. This role works closely with the CEO, HR, Client Services team and leadership to provide accurate financial support and guidance. The Controller collaborates with others through a positive professional attitude; exhibits integrity and reliability; and is able to provide exceptional client services by managing self with a sense of urgency, practicality and accountability.

To ensure success, the Controller is prompt, detail-oriented, professional, and analytical. This role will have excellent presentation skills with the ability to successfully communicate complex financial data to decision-makers.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable/accounts receivable, billings & collections, and payroll
  • Execute weekly accounting tasks related to processing payroll, creating client invoices, accounts receivable management
  • Manages the relationship with company’s financial advisor to ensure company portfolio and 401k program is designed to meet business objectives.
  • Manages the financial systems to account for financial transactions defining and updating bookkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Maintains subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions and balance accounts by reconciling entries.
  • Maintains and balances the general ledger and manages the profit-loss statement and balance sheets
  • Invoices clients, follows up on client collections and open invoices and ensures timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques
  • Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
  • Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis
  • Working with the accounting consultant, manages, analyzes and presents monthly financial reports to the executive team and board of directors as needed to inform vital decision-making
  • Assists with the budget process and forecasting
  • Develops and monitors business performance metrics
  • Makes federal and state tax depositions and completes monthly, quarterly and annual compliance and regulatory filings on behalf of the business
  • Guides strategic direction of the financial success of the company, evaluate business decisions against budget and strategic direction.
  • Responsible for financial metrics, trending and reporting
  • Work closely with leadership team to ensure that company-wide finance and human resource operations meet all state, federal and regulations
  • Oversees regulatory reporting, frequently including tax planning and compliance
  • Responsible for oversight and management of business insurance accounts

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Proficient in QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online
  • Experience with regulatory bodies, tax law and compliance rules
  • Solid communication, technology, analytical and management skills.
  • Possesses knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Five years of relevant experience in bookkeeping or accounting
  • Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued.
